Today, B.A.S.S. announced that Diet Mountain Dew has signed on as a presenting sponsor of the Bassmaster Classic, the 2014 world championship of bass fishing.
Now titled the GEICO Bassmaster Classic presented by Diet Mountain Dew and GoPro, the championship will take place Friday through Sunday (Feb. 21-23) in Alabama on Lake Guntersville. Weigh-ins and other activities will be in Birmingham.
“We are proud to connect the iconic Diet Mountain Dew brand to our premier event of the season,” said Bruce Akin, CEO of B.A.S.S., which owns the Classic. “The 2014 Classic in our home base of Alabama is shaping up to be one of the best in 44 years of Classic history.”
Diet Mountain Dew and B.A.S.S. first partnered in April 2013 when the brand signed on as official Supporting Sponsor of all Bassmaster tours, including the Bassmaster Elite Series, Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Opens Series presented by Allstate, B.A.S.S. Nation events and Carhartt Bassmaster College Series. The brand’s role as Supporting Sponsor will continue in 2014.
In addition, Gerald Swindle, Bassmaster Elite Series pro and Classic qualifier, will continue his role as a Diet Mountain Dew athlete. From Warrior, Ala., Swindle is one of 55 Classic anglers who will compete on Lake Guntersville and bring their live catches to Birmingham for daily weigh-ins at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC). The first-place prize is $300,000 and the most prestigious title in the sport.
Classic TV programming will air on ESPN2 on Saturday, March 1, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. ET and Sunday, March 2, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. ET. Fans can look forward to watching the finale in prime time on Sunday, March 2, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. ET.
