Kristine Houtman of Crystal Bay, Minn., was appointed to the Professional Outdoor Media Association (POMA) Board of Directors this week by Board Chairman Kevin Tate.
Houtman, a book author and prior hunting and fishing industry management executive, was selected to fill the board seat vacated by Steve Pennaz, also of Minn. Her term begins immediately and ends in 2016.
Houtman has worked in the outdoor industry for over 20 years, and launched her writing career in 2010 with the publication of her first book – “A Whirlwind Opener”, a book for eight- to 12-year-old readers. Writing under the pseudonym K.J. Houtman, she also published four additional children’s books and an adult non-fiction book co-authored with outdoor media veteran Bill Miller, entitled “Reflections Under the Big Pine”. Houtman also has been a weekly columnist at OutdoorHub.com since January 2013.
Past employers, including American Sportfishing Association and North American Media Group placed Houtman in hunting and fishing marketing management roles. She ran the well-known Masters Walleye Circuit for nine seasons.
A business graduate of Elmhurst College in Illinois, Houtman resides on Lake Minnetonka with her husband, Jim. They have three grown children, two currently serving in the U.S. Army, and one granddaughter.
