In 2014, MAKO Boats and Bass Pro Shops are hosting family friendly fishing tournaments in Florida at Dania Beach, Port St. Lucie, Islamorada, and Ft Myers. These casual “Funaments” are hosted by George Poveromo, TV fishing personality and longtime MAKO boat owner.
“This fishing event is designed for MAKO boats owners, saltwater fishing enthusiasts and their families and friends to relax, have fun and maybe win an award,” Poveromo said. “Each Florida Funament location offers great inshore and offshore fishing opportunities. Plus, at the end of each day, participants can relax and share stories at our dockside cookouts.”
The Fishing Funaments also provide an opportunity to teach younger generations the value of fisheries conservation. Event organizers are encouraging anglers to practice catch and release. Special scorecards will be provided so participants can keep track of their catch. Anglers are also encouraged to submit photos and video of their success, and awards will be presented to those with the most outstanding catch.
Participants can also get advice from the pros, including Poveromo, about lures, electronics and where and how to fish. In addition, event sponsors will display the latest fishing gear and participants will have the opportunity to test drive a variety of models in the MAKO boat lineup.
The $100 per boat entry fee includes Fishing Funament T-shirts, dockside cookouts on Friday and Saturday nights, and a Bass Pro Shops Captain’s Bag filled with goodies that are valued at $150. The Captain’s Bags are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
