Huge sales increases, massive expansions in accessory offerings and an innovative approach to warehousing product have earned Idaho’s Black Sheep Sporting Goods the 2013 Overall Dealer of the Year award from ATK Sporting Group. The award was presented to owner Dave Knoll at the Worldwide Buying Group Show in Reno, Nev. on Feb 11. The presenters were Jack Harding and Jim Thompson of J. Harding and Associates.
According to ATK Sporting Group Vice President of Sales—East Jim Bruno, the Coeur d’Alene-based retailer’s use of Co-Op dollars to leverage advertising and its practice of warehousing products to ensure availability have grown its already-strong sales for ammunition and reloading equipment. Meanwhile, the retailer has dramatically expanded its accessory offerings, including Weaver Optics, Outers gun care equipment, BLACKHAWK! clothing and leather holsters, and Champion shooting glasses, hearing protection and targets.
Through these efforts, Black Sheep has shown sales increases of more than 350 percent for ATK products.
“These kinds of numbers—and the strategy and hard work that led to them—are exemplary,” Bruno said. “Black Sheep’s performance and its true dedication to the entire ATK Sporting Group family of brands make it more than deserving of the Dealer of the Year title.”
Knoll founded the business in 1975 and built it into a full-line outdoors sports retailer. Today, Black Sheep operates a store in Lewiston, Idaho, as well as its 65,000-square-foot Coeur d’Alene location.
In related news, the 2013 BLACKHAWK! Dealer of the Year Award went to Shoot Straight for the second time in two years. The Florida-based retailer features eight locations across the state.
Rogers Sporting Goods, of Liberty, Mo., claimed the award for Ammunition Dealer of the Year. Since 1980, the Rogers family has offered its customers a fantastic selection and great service.
The Shooting Accessory Dealer of the Year award went to Palmetto State Armory. The business previously held the title of ATK Overall Dealer of the Year in 2012, and now has four stores across South Carolina.
