The National Shooting Sports Foundation presented the 2013 SHOT Business Retail Chain of the Year award to Bass Pro Shops, an outdoor retailer specializing in hunting, fishing, camping and other outdoor gear. The award was presented to Bass Pro Shops founder and CEO Johnny Morris at the 2014 SHOT Show, in recognition of the company’s dedication to hunting, recreational shooting, and promoting safety and conservation.
“The SHOT Business Awards celebrate leadership—leadership in the shooting sports industry and leadership in the community,” said Slaton White, editor of SHOT Business magazine. “Bass Pro Shops was selected for this award because of its ongoing commitment to the shooting sports and conservation. It has also been a generous supporter of community outreach efforts across the country.”
Bass Pro Shops has demonstrated longstanding support for hunting and recreational shooting in a variety of ways. Their commitment ranges from supporting agencies and organizations that are dedicated to conservation, hunting and shooting to partnering with the NRA to bring a world class sporting arms museum to the Midwest. The NRA National Sporting Arms Museum is the result of Bass Pro Shops donating, designing and building the 7,500-square-foot facility at its flagship superstore in Springfield, Mo., while NRA provided the firearms, text and storylines for the exhibits. The museum, home to more than a thousand firearms, focuses on the history of hunting, conservation and freedom.
In addition, Bass Pro Shops hosts free in-store events, seminars and classes at all retail locations to help people learn and improve their hunting and shooting skills and even offers shooting opportunities at its 11 in-store shooting ranges. Stores across the U.S. and Canada also offer hunter safety education course to make it easier for new hunters to get certified. Another way Bass Pro Shops upholds our hunting and shooting traditions is by providing discounts and making donations in support of sharing our outdoor heritage with youth, women, people with disabilities, active and retired military personnel, and families.
“No doubt many factors entered into the decision-making process but key factors most certainly included the remarkable combined efforts of our many talented team members; our long-standing support for conservation and hunter safety education, and out steadfast commitment to setting industry high standards for complying with state and federal laws,” said Morris. “We’re deeply honored to receive this recognition from the National Shooting Sports Foundation. And I’m proud of our team’s record of giving back to support the future of the sports we serve.”
