After taking an early lead, Gold Tip’s Levi Morgan, the 2013 ASA Shooter of the Year, held a firm hold on the pole position throughout the second event on the ASA schedule, held Feb 28 –March 2nd at Fort Benning. This was Morgan’s first victory of the 2014 season. Fellow Gold Tip Pro Staffer, Chance Beaubouef, who entered the final shoot off in the fifth position, battled back to claim the third spot on the podium. In the Senior Pro Division, Gold Tip’s, Art Brown, fought back to win by a single point in the final shoot-off. Fellow Gold Tip Senior Pro, Duane Price, who held on to first place for both opening rounds, finished in the third position after the completion of the final shoot-off.
At the ASA outdoor 3-D event, Pro Division contestants shoot two rounds of twenty targets from unmarked distances that vary in distance up to 50 yards. The five highest scores from the first two rounds qualify for the shoot-off to decide the winner.
This was a repeat performance for Morgan, who had taken home the win at Fort Benning in 2013. After Saturday’s first round of 20 targets, Morgan was +22 and held a 4-point lead going into Sunday’s final round. Morgan maintained his first place standing through the second round, ending with a final score of 440, +18 on the day, and 4 points ahead of his nearest competitor, fellow Gold Tip Shooter, Joseph Goza. Morgan held on to the 4-point lead through the shoot-off and claimed the win. Ironically, it was Gold Tip’s own Chance Beaubouef, firing three perfect 14’s, which pushed him ahead of Goza to claim the third spot and bumping Goza down to fourth.
“It never gets old! What made it even better was to look behind me and see my wife and baby boy and my mom and dad watching,” said Morgan. “I’m so thankful to my Lord and Savior for it all! It was a special weekend!”
Of the five final contestants in the Pro Division shoot off, Morgan and Goza were both shooting Gold Tip Triple X arrows, while Beaubouef shot Gold Tip X-cutter Ultralight Pro Series arrows. All three were using Bee Stinger Stabilizer Systems. Senior Pros, Art Brown and Duane Price were both shooting Gold Tip X-cutter Ultralight Pro Series arrows.
“It was another great performance for Gold Tip and Bee Stinger Pro Staff,” said Gold Tip’s National Sales Director, Mitch McKay. “ Winning is no accident and our Pro Staff know they can depend on the rigidity and consistent performance of their Gold Tip arrows to help them come out ahead.”
