Rev Up the Fishing Boats for the Dick Hiley St. Jude Bass Classic at Wabasha Municipal Harbor on May 2

Get hooked on a cause at the Dick Hiley St. Jude Bass Classic at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 2 in Wabasha, Minn. The festivities will start at Slipperys Bar & Grill where participants will learn how St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other deadly diseases.
Guests will celebrate individual fundraising efforts by anglers for St. Jude kids. Thanks to the support of groups like this, families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food, so they can focus on helping their child live. To show appreciation for the angler’s support of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the order of boat launches will be based on their fundraising success.
On Saturday, May 3, there will be fishing at Wabasha Municipal Harbor, a tournament weigh-in, and dinner banquet at Slipperys featuring live and silent auctions. The event wraps up on Sunday, May 4, with more fishing, a final tournament weigh-in and an awards ceremony on the Mississippi River at the Wabasha Ramp.
Ed and Debbie Witschen understand firsthand the importance of raising awareness and funding for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Their son Dylan received treatment at St. Jude for a brain tumor. It gave them peace of mind knowing they did not have to worry about how they would afford his care, and Dylan could be treated at the very place where doctors send their toughest cases. The Witschens knew St. Jude would not give up on their son but do everything possible to help him.
Unfortunately, in 2010 he passed away. To honor his life, Dylan’s family continues to fundraise and support St. Jude to advance treatments in hopes to cure these deadly diseases, among other causes. Because the majority of St. Jude funding comes from individual contributions, St. Jude has the freedom to focus on what matters most – saving kids regardless of their financial situation.
“Dylan would agree. No child should have to go through what he did, so it’s important to continue fighting for a cure by supporting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital,” said Denise Webster, Dylan’s aunt.
