This Week, Gun Guy Radio Talks Back Yard Prepping: How to Grow and Store Your Own Food
OutdoorHub 03.26.14
Jake Challand is joined this week on Gun Guy Radio by Troy Clopton of the God and Guns Podcast and Aaron Kreiger of We Like Shooting to discuss how to begin a basic garden and even raising small animals for food. The guys provide their experiences and some great sources of instruction on “square foot” gardening and urban gardening, as well as “how tos” for composting, soil preparation, and the planting and harvesting of a variety of different kinds of fruits and vegetables. Finally, once you’ve harvested your crop, you will need to know how to store it. The discussion concerning canning, root cellars, freezing and other methods of preservation should not be missed.
For those who are more advanced in their prepping skills there is also raising animals to provide protein, which will be necessary if there is a true disaster. In addition to the meat that can be obtained through hunting, many people are now learning how to raise chickens, ducks, and other small animals to provide eggs and meat.
In the Brownell’s Product Spotlight segment, Jake and Paul Levy introduce the Lancer Carbon Fiber Shotgun Extension Tubes. Lancer is already known for its excellent AR-15 magazines, but this competition ready shotgun extension tube will reduce the weight – it is an amazing 2.7 ounces – and better the look or your Benelli M1 or M2 12 guage shotgun. These extensions will increase the magazine tube capacity by either five or seven rounds. This easy to install product will definitely increase the performance of your competition shotgun.
