Gold Tip’s own Tim Gillingham found himself on top of the podium for the second time this season after claiming victory at the Alabama ASA event, held in Tuscaloosa 3/28-3/30. Fellow Gold Tip shooters, Walter Rush and Levi Morgan finished second and third, respectively. In the Senior Men’s Pro Division, Gold Tip pro staffer, Art Brown, won his second ASA event of the season, taking the final shoot off by 6 points. Fellow Senior Pro, Duane Price, held on for third place. And in the Women’s Pro Division, Gold Tip shooter, Samantha Morgan, took third.
At the outdoor 3-D event, Pro Division contestants shoot two rounds of twenty targets from unmarked distances that vary in distance up to 50 yards. The five highest scores from the first two rounds qualify for the shoot-off to decide the winner.
Gillingham, shooting Gold Tip’s Triple X Pros, found himself down by 8 after Saturday’s opening round. Knowing he would need to be aggressive heading into Sunday’s second round, Gillingham came out on fire, shooting +22 on the day, and tying with fellow Gold Tip pro staffer, Levi Morgan, to lead the event heading into the final shoot off. “By the middle of the second round I knew I was in contention and when I finished I had shot no 8’s and hit 11 out of the 20, 12’s,” said Gillingham. “I was pleasantly surprised to be tied with Levi at 236, with fellow Bee Stinger Pro Staffer, Jeff Hopkins, 4 points behind us, in third.”
Setting the pace early, Gillingham smoked the upper 12 on the first target of the shoot off, a 51-yard medium deer others had struggled with during the tournament, which then put pressure on the other four Pros to play catch up. Following up with another 12 on the second target, Gillingham held a solid 6-point lead and began pulling away from Morgan and the other shooters. Walter Rush, shooting Gold Tip’s Ultra Light Pro X-Cutters, made a late surge to claim second position, his best finish ever as a Pro, and pushing Morgan back to third.
“As our own Pro Staff Manager, Tim’s attention to detail is well known by all of us here at Gold Tip, and this year, the details and hard work are paying off,” said Mitch McKay, Director of Sales for Gold Tip. “The clean sweep in the Pro Division is proof positive that you can count on Gold Tip’s toughness and consistency at the absolute highest levels of competition.”
