Jason Mitchell Adds Two Great Lakes Rods to Line

Two new rods join the revamped line of Jason Mitchell® products for the 2014 open water season. Continuing with the Lifetime Warranty from Clam Outdoors™, these two rods have trolling big water on the Great Lakes in mind. Staying in a targeted price range of $69, the unique action and reel seats in these rods fit perfectly for trolling leadcore, wire or even monofilament rigs with heavy dipsy divers or when trolling back long distances and letting out multiple colors. They look and feel like twice the price.

The 6’0” e-glass, one piece JMT60MHL is designed specifically for trolling wire and leadcore. The 8’6” telescopic, graphic/e-glass JM861GLMH boasts parabolic rod action, perfect for various trolling applications with braid, lead core and monofilament. The magnum reel seat in both provides space for large reels with line counters. “We built up the action to handle the extra torque on these rods,” shared Jason Mitchell. “The reel seats accommodate the size 47s reels, most common in Great Lakes trolling.”

Professional charter captain and guide Ross Robertson of Big Water Guide Service and Promotions provided input and direction on the design of these two new rods. “I looked at all the things that would break and go wrong with my other rods and we took that into consideration designing these rods,” said Ross. “The larger reel seat accommodates leadcore or copper wire reels, the old fashioned butt cap is gone so you don’t have to worry about breaking it off, and no inserts in the guides so there’s nothing to get hung up.” Maintenance free and improved action were the keys. “I wanted longer and softer to help keep more fish on and be useful in several heavier-presentation modes. We did it with these two rods and they come at a great price point.”

Attention to detail is noted throughout the series, including aligning the guides opposite the spine for superior performance. All rods in the ten-rod line up carry a Lifetime Warranty. “We showed these rods to the dealers and they really liked them,” concluded Jason Mitchell. “Then we told them their price point and the lifetime warranty in place, and they loved them. You’ll be seeing them in the stores this year.”
