New Jersey Trout Season to Open April 5th

This weekend’s weather – described by forecasters as a perfect day to be outdoors – coupled with additional allotments of trout to 87 waters, have this year’s opener sizing up to be one of the best ever!  More than 250,000 trout have already been stocked in 140 waterbodies located throughout all 21 counties, including four new river sections for this year only!  Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity!

The NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife’s popular Bonus Broodstock Program continues this year with ten waterbodies each receiving 30 rainbow trout weighing over 5 pounds!  That’s in addition to increased pre-season allotments at these waters.  And 1000 rainbows are spread around the state as part of the Hook-a-Winner Program.

The online licensing system makes purchasing a fishing license and trout stamp fast and easy – and it can be done from the comfort of your own home.  Kids under the age of sixteen, and residents over 70, fish for free and don’t require a license!

Be sure to visit the Division’s website at http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/trtinfo_spring14.htm for the most up-to-date stocking schedules, access information and other important information regarding this year’s trout season.  Get outside with the family and friends and enjoy the day!
