Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Results for the Missouri River at Jefferson City, Missouri

This past Saturday April 18th, 2014 the Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail hit the waters of the Missouri River at Jefferson City, Missouri. In the event over 50 top anglers from 5 different states were competing not only for the cash and prizes, but the opportunity to qualify for the 2014 Cabela’s King Kat East and West Championship. This year’s West Championship will be held September 19 & 20, 2014 on the Mississippi and Rock Rivers at Quad Cities, Iowa. The East Championship will be held October 3 & 4, 2014 on Lake Wateree at Camden, South Carolina. Be sure to check out our website at: www.kingkatusa.com. Results for the Top 5 Teams
Taking first place was the well known anglers John Jamison of Spring Hill, Kansas and Mark Thompson of Williamsburg, Kansas weighing in 52.56 pounds and earning $3,000.00. John and Mark were fishing 40 miles downriver from Jefferson City, drifting with shad and skipjack in 25 feet of water throughout the day to catch 9 fish for the day. The team is sponsored by Cabela’s, Rippin Lips and Driftmaster Prostaff. In second place was Craig Shoemate of Centralia, Missouri with 45.74 pounds and earning $1,200.00. Craig was anchored just 3 miles south of the I-70 bridge using shad in 20-25 feet of water and catching 4 fish for the day.
Third place went to Carl Morris Jr. of Johnstown, Ohio and Jeremy Martin of Dayton, Ohio with 45.54 pounds and earning $500.00. Carl and Jeremy also captured big fish of the event with a 42.92 pound cat giving the team an additional $610.00. Carl and Jeremy were fishing in the Marion area, drifting in 20-25 feet of water. The team was using skipjack and only caught 2 fish for the day, luckily 1 was big fish of the event. This is back to back third place finishes for the team after finishing third place last weekend at the Cabela’s King Kat Pickwick/Wilson event. Also Carl will be featured on an upcoming addition of “Buckeye Sportsman” Presented by Cabela’s with host Dan Armitage.
Andrew Little of Ashland, Missouri and Jeff Singer of Hartsburg, Missouri took fourth place with a weight of 38.84 pounds and earning $300.00. Andrew and Jeff were fishing up river in the Hartsburg area using cut shad in 20-25 feet of water to catch 5 fish for the day.
Fifth place went to Richard Bower of Jefferson City, Missouri and Terry Bloomer of Holts Summit, Missouri with 33.24 pounds. Richard and Terry were fishing the Herman area of the Missouri River. The team was using small shad anchored in 10 feet of water and catching 9 fish for the day.
Cabela’s King Kat Free Kids Fishing Rodeo
In conjunction with the tournament Cabela’s King Kat held their Kids Rodeo on Saturday morning with several local children attending the event. All the participants signed up for a chance to win one of 6-$1,000.00 scholarships to be drawn for at the Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic this fall.
Cabela’s King Kat, Crappie USA and our anglers have contributed nearly $322,000.00 to the “Outdoor Kids” Scholarships since 1997. We are very proud to be a part of the education process for the youngsters who participate in our tournaments as adult/youth teams and those who fish in the Cabela’s King Kat, “Kids Fishing Rodeos”.
