2014 Cabela’s School of the Year Coming Down to the Wire

The 2014 Cabela’s Collegiate Bass Fishing School of the year race has been a tight one all year long! And with the college school of the year season winding down, there is little doubt that the 2014 BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship will be the most the pivotal event of the year in determining who will reign as this year’s Cabela’s School of the Year.

The Association of Collegiate Anglers (ACA) Cabela’s School of the Year program awards points to each competing school based on their finish in sanctioned events in relation to field size. Sanctioned events include the ACA Cabela’s Collegiate Bass Fishing Series, the FLW Outdoors Collegiate Series, B.A.S.S Carhartt College Series, as well as select school-run events nationwide. Current sanctioned events and details are located on www.CollegiateBassChampionship.com.

Some Key Observations…

The University of Louisiana-Monroe, who won the coveted Cabela’s School of Year Title in 2013, is looking to pull off back to back titles!

The University of North Alabama, sitting in second, held the top spot for most of the spring before falling to second this past month. They also are fishing their home waters of Lake Pickwick at the national BoatUS Championship event coming up.

Murray State, currently third, is a perennial bass fishing powerhouse and is riding a wave of recent successes as they are coming off a major win at the Cabela’s Collegiate Big Bass Bash on Kentucky Lake less than a month ago.

Bethel University, currently fourth in the Cabela’s School of Year race, won the 2013 BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship on Lake Pickwick and has been picked by many to win the 2014 BoatUS Championship there again this year. If they do win, it will likely give them a shot at the 2014 Cabela’s School of the Year title as well.

The University of Tennessee-Knoxville, currently in fifth in the race, has been steady all year long in major events and with a top finish later this month they could move into the top spot.

The rest of the top 20 in the 2014 Cabela’s School of Year race as of May 1st are listed below:

6. University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa, AL)
7. University of Wisconsin (Stevens Point, WI)
8. Mississippi State (Starkville, MS)
9. Clemson University (Clemson, SC)
10. Kansas State University (Manhattan, KS)
11. Georgetown College (Georgetown, KY)
12. McKendree University (Lebanon, IL)
13. Calhoun Community College (Decatur, AL)
14. Arkansas Tech (Russellville, AR)
15. University of Tennessee – Martin (Martin, TN)
16. Kennesaw State University (Kennesaw, GA)
17. University of Tennessee – Chattanooga (Chattanooga, TN)
18. Eastern Kentucky University (Richmond, KY)
19. University of Louisville (Louisville, KY)
20. La Roche College (Pittsburgh, PA)

The University of Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks will certainly have their work cut out for them as the next event in the national rankings the 2014 BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship on Lake Pickwick will feature the largest field in college fishing (nearly 200 teams are expected to compete) and almost every school ranked in the top 50 in the nation already has registered at least one team in the event — commonly called the biggest event in college fishing. Fans of college fishing can follow all the action direct from Florence, Alabama on www.CollegiateBassChampionship.com between May 19th and 23rd.
