AMA Road Race Grand Championship to Challenge Country’s Best Amateur Talent

Champions will be crowned Sept. 6-7 at New Jersey Motorsports Park U.S.

Amateur road racers will race for American Motorcyclist Association national No. 1 plates on Sept. 6-7 when the 2014 AMA Road Race Grand Championship heads to New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, N.J.

“America’s top amateur road racers deserve a top-notch track and a great program,” said AMA Track Racing Manager Ken Saillant. “Working with our event partners at the American Sportbike Racing Association and the Championship Cup Series, we’ll provide that venue for our amateur racers across a number of skill-, age- and displacement-based classes.”

The AMA Road Race Grand Championship will run in conjunction with CCS classes. As always, the 2014 AMA Road Race Grand Championship will welcome racers from all clubs and organizations, and is open to all licensed road racing AMA members.

“The whole ASRA/CCS family is excited to be working with the AMA again on the AMA Road Race Grand Championship,” said ASRA LLC President Kevin Elliott. “This prestigious event is doing what it is intended to do: bring the best of amateur road racing to the forefront of the sport.”

Riders will get ample track time and an opportunity to race against the country’s fastest amateur racers. The best compete for the AMA Road Racing Horizon Award, which is awarded to the rider showing the most promise for success in the professional ranks. Past winners of the AMA Road Racing Horizon Award have included Jason DiSalvo, Hayden Gillim, Jake Lewis, Ben Spies, Miles Thornton and Blake Young.

“By hosting the event at New Jersey Motorsports Park, on the same Thunderbolt Circuit that AMA Pro Road Racing will use for its final event, the AMA Horizon Award will take on even more significance,” Elliott added. “We will witness what amazing athletes there are coming onto the national stage by their performance at the AMA Road Race Grand Championship.”

Other awards at the event include the AMA Road Racing Youth Award, the AMA Road Racing Top Novice Award and the AMA Road Racing Vet/Senior Award, presented to a standout rider who’s 30 years old or older.
