Faulkner Wins Walmart Bass Fishing League Volunteer Division Event on Cherokee Lake

Jack Faulkner II of Jacksboro, Tenn., weighed a five-bass limit totaling 16 pounds, 11 ounces Saturday to win the fourth Walmart Bass Fishing League Volunteer Division tournament of 2014 on Cherokee Lake. For his victory, Faulkner earned $3,718.
“It was a good win,” said Faulkner. “This is the first BFL tournament that I’ve won and it felt really good.
Faulkner said that he fished topwater baits near the main channel and targeted areas in 20 to 25 feet of water with shad to catch his deep bass.
“In the morning I started out fishing topwater baits and I caught one of my better fish,” Faulkner explained. “I ran that pattern until 9 o’clock in the morning then I switched up and fished deep. I probably caught about 20 bass deep, mostly on a Yamamoto Swim Senko and a spoon.”
Faulkner said that he used a Dixie Custom Rods flipping stick to fish his spoon, and that the soft tip helped him keep bass buttoned up. He said that he caught his fish on a green-pumpkin-colored Yamamoto Swim Senko with a belly hook, a Heddon Zara Spook and a Mann’s Mann-O-Lure.
“I’ve fished several BFL’s on Cherokee Lake,” continued Faulkner. “I’ve had chances to win before, but I always seemed to let fish get off. This year I didn’t lose any fish.”

William King of Maryville, Tenn., weighed a five-bass limit totaling 15 pounds, 13 ounces Saturday to win $1,859 in the co-angler division.

The top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers based on point standings will qualify for the Oct. 9-11 Regional Championship on Pickwick Lake in Florence, Ala. Boaters will compete for a top award of a Ranger Z518C with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard and a Chevy Silverado, while co-anglers will fish for a new Ranger Z518C with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 120 tournaments throughout the season, five in each division. The top 40 boaters and co-anglers from each division qualify for a regional tournament and compete to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the Rayovac FLW Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
