Swords from The Hobbit Featured in September Issue of BLADE

Swords from the movie The Hobbit : An Unexpected Journey steal the spotlight in the September issue of BLADE Magazine, available on newsstands everywhere June 17th.

Fili the Dwarf (played by actor Dean O’Gorman) of New Line Cinema’s The Hobbit ™ appears on the cover of the issue, brandishing his “Dwarven Swords” in the midst of battle. “Worn to be Wild,” Daniel Jackson’s feature story, examines the making of fantasy swords such as Fili’s and the secrets behind creating that look of authenticity. The swords featured in the film are among several reproduced by United Cutlery and a number of other knives in the cutlery industry that sport a blade or overall finish purposely made to look battle worn. BLADE gets the insider information on how these companies create the aesthetically pleasing finish, a finish that also reduces glare and resists corrosion.

For the patriotic knife fan, the issue also features “USA! USA! USA!” an article by Dexter Ewing highlighting great knives made right here in America. Readers can check out a folder by Emerson Knives, Inc. with a handle made of material taken from a recently downed oak tree that was part of George Washington’s Mount Vernon during the American Revolution. Plus, ABS master smith’s Ron Newton’s latest iteration of the keyhole integral style knife graces the cover. Stephen Garger examines this hot new trend in higher-end forged knives in “Keys to the Keendom.” All this, plus articles on the mysteries of the kukri notch, blade grinds and more in the September issue of BLADE.
