This Week on Gun Guy Radio – Introduction to Long Range Shooting

In episode 122 of Gun Guy Radio J.W. of the AR-15 Podcast and Chris from Blackheart Consulting discuss the fundamentals of long distance shooting for beginners. J.W. is well-known by the Firearms Radio Network. Chris is currently a instructor with Blackheart Consulting who now leads sniper classes in Pennsylvania. However, he formerly served as a sniper in the United States Marine Corps. Specifically Chris was one of the first snipers into Afganistan after September 11, 2001. His team of snipers made the first sniper kill in the war on terror. He attended various Marine Corps sniper schools before his discharge from the Marine Corps. After taking some time off from shooting, Chris started Blackheart Consulting.
GGR listeners get the benefit of some of Chris’ expertise without having to attend his class. All accurate shooters begin with the fundamentals of marksmanship, but in addition to the fundamentals, Chris and J.W. lead the audience through some of the more advanced principles of long-range and highly accurate shooting. Long range shooters must begin their efforts by building a solid base – known as bone support – to serve as the foundation for their rifle. Chris points out that the bone support is just the beginning and that relaxation, trigger control and breath control.
Finally Chris provides his thoughts on equipment from the rifle selection, to caliber choice as well as cost effective ways of shooting up to 1,000 yards.
