Introducing the New ZEISS VICTORY SF 42

Carl Zeiss Sports Optics, the world’s leading manufacturer of high performance sports optics, announces the release of the world’s best birding and wildlife observation binocular, the VICTORY SF. Setting fresh standards in ergonomics and optical performance through its exclusive design features, the highest benefit to birders and wildlife observers is hours of pure enjoyment in the field.
A newly developed, highly innovative Ultra-FL lens system is the optical core of the binocular. It contains two fluoride lenses made of the highest quality glass from SCHOTT, a sister company of ZEISS. The Ultra FL lens system provides the incredible image quality of the binoculars, combined with a very high light transmission rate of 92%.
The equally new Comfort View seven-lens eyepiece with field flattener creates a sharp image all the way to the edges, with minimal distracting “globe effect”. A hallmark of the VICTORY SF is the class leading extreme wide field of view with 360 ft. at 1,000 yds. (10×42), and 444 ft. at 1,000 yds. (8×42). In fact, the new VICTORY SF 8×42 has almost the same field of view as the legendary ZEISS 7×42 Dialyt, an original favorite of birders worldwide.
Unlike the traditional open-hinge double-link bridge, where the focusing mechanism is located below the focusing knob, the new VICTORY SF triple-link bridge relocates this mechanism to a more robust bridge that extends above the focusing knob. This shifts the knob closer to the focusing hand resulting in less finger spread and more comfort and more room for the hand. The main advantage in this innovation is that the index finger no longer needs to stretch upwards towards the eyepiece while focusing. It can be held naturally and move without tension.
A newly developed anti-slip profile on the focusing knob greatly improves the grip and prevents slipping, even in wet conditions. The function of the focusing wheel was specifically designed for the needs of nature observers. Requiring just 1.8 rotations from infinity to close focus of just 4.9 feet, it is far more dynamic than competing binoculars, which often require 2.5 rotations. It is very easy to set a precise position of focus. All of these features are combined in the comfortable focusing ergonomics under the name of “Smart Focus”, abbreviated in the model name with “SF”. The ability to use close focus down to 4.9 feet makes it the perfect solution for birders, as well as insect and butterfly watchers. The extremely light weight of just 27.5 oz. is unique for binoculars in this optical performance class – especially when one considers that the housing is completely made of metal and covered with full rubber armoring.
In addition to the reduction in weight, the designers worked to achieve a remarkably balanced distribution of weight. Unlike conventional binoculars, the balance point of the optical system was shifted further back towards the eyepiece. This makes it possible to support the VICTORY SF comfortably in front of your eyes, even one handed, to provide relaxed viewing over extended periods of time. This is an especially important advantage for lengthy periods of birding, which can be fatiguing on arms, neck and shoulders. This development is emphasized with the name “ErgoBalance”.
“VICTORY SF is a perfect addition to the VICTORY line, especially the HT and RF models,” states Mike Jensen, president of Carl Zeiss Sports Optics. “While the successful VICTORY HT binoculars are ideal for extreme low light observation due to the unrivaled 95% light transmission, the new VICTORY SF is revolutionary and sets new standards in this premium class. VICTORY SF stands for a brilliant visual experience, lightest weight, widest field of view, best focus, perfect ergonomics, and will attract birders and all wildlife enthusiasts.”
The binoculars include a newly developed protective case. The case gives you four options. You can use the unique clam shell case over your shoulder to carry the binoculars securely in the field with or without a neckstrap attached. With the zippers closed the binocular is secure even in rough terrain. The additional magnetic closure also keeps the binoculars at ready, making them easy to use at a moment’s notice. You can also mount the case on your belt, or attach the neckstraps of the binocular directly to the case to wear it on your chest. The elegantly streamlined, yet highly functional design of the case is a unique VICTORY SF feature.
The VICTORY SF 42 is unique in the world’s market for this combination of product advantages. The prices lie in a very moderate range for its immense performance benefits: The 8×42 SF is priced at $2,888.87 and the 10×42 SF at $2,944.43. The binoculars are proudly manufactured at the Wetzlar production site with the distinction of being “Made in Germany”.
