Wayne Shaw of Urbana, Ill., weighed a five-bass limit totaling 20 pounds, 2 ounces Saturday to win the second Walmart Bass Fishing League Illini Division tournament of 2014 on Lake Shelbyville. For his victory, Shaw earned $4,926.
“I pretty much fished deep the whole day,” said Shaw. “I fished places that were from 12 to 20 feet of water. I was fishing drop offs and points with some brush and rocks on them. I only fished about six spots all day.
“I caught my big bass around 12:30,” said Shaw oh his six-pound kicker. “I had five fish at the time and it culled my smallest. It was probably a five-pound upgrade.
“I had been struggling,” Shaw continued. “But, Shelbyville is my home lake and it was one of those days when everything went right. I just made good decisions and it all worked out.
“You never know if you’re going to win, and I didn’t want to count my chickens before they hatched, but I absolutely felt good when I was headed back toward the marina,” Shaw finished.
Shaw said he used a ¾-ounce brown and green-pumpkin-colored football jig with a Yum F2 Craw Papi for a trailer.
