Episode 80 kicks off by inviting viewers to check out how the Brownells sponsored AR-15 Podcast rifle giveaway by checking out the build on youtube or iTunes. This week, Reed adds the MAGPUL MOE buttstock. Check out the show notes for the complete list of parts.
Reed and Anthony jump right into the main topic for the episode–what is the state of the AR market today? Well the good news is that prices are stabilizing, if not coming down to about pre-panic levels. Most retailers and internet based suppliers are coming back into stock, and rifles, and rifle parts, are becoming more available.
Part and parcel with rifle prices, is ammunition availability and price. Anthony reviews a little recent historical data about ammo prices for everyone’s favorite black rifle. At the height of the most recent round of demand, .223/5.56 sometimes fetched higher than $0.70 per round. The good news there is that ammunition prices are on a downward trend as well. Reed relates some anecdotal stories that illustrate the most recent availability and downward price trend of certain common rounds. Some of the higher grain prices are still pricey, but many types, such as eastern european brands, are still very reasonable.
As always, the guys take us through some feedback, where listeners get to weigh in on topics, ask questions, and also provide insight to the hosts as well as other listeners. Topics include 9mm conversion for the AR platform, barrell linings, sight placement. One listener has a pretty good tip regarding billeted upper receivers for his fellow listeners.
