Crosman Hosting USA’s Largest Regular Season Field Target Event
Crosman 07.03.14
Five years after hosting its first field target competition, Crosman Corporation will welcome 100 competitors in six disciplines at what is now the largest event of its kind in the U.S. The Northeast Regional Field Target Championship hosted by Crosman will feature participants from fourteen states and Canada competing July 12 and 13 on the company’s Bloomfield, NY campus.
“What began as a helpful gesture to a shooting club when they were no longer able to host the event has turned into the top open competition in the country for field target,” said Mark DeBoard, Shooting Services Manager for Crosman. “Technically it’s a regional competition but we have participants from across the country. This year we have them coming from as far as California and Colorado,” added DeBoard.
The NRFTC is open to professionals and amateur shooters alike and this year Fred Eichler, professional hunter, outfitter and host of “Predator Nation” on the Sportsman Channel, will be competing in his first field target match. Other notables include the 2011 and current reigning WFTF PCP National Champion, Greg Sauve, the 2012 WFTF Piston National Champion, Hector Medina, 2011 Open Piston National Champion, Paul Bishop, and the 2010 Hunter National Champion, Bill Day along with a number of national contenders. The NRFTC is free for the public and a great opportunity learn about field target and airguns in general.
The rifle event takes place over two days with competitors taking 60 shots each day. Those with the highest number of “hits” will be named winners. Competitors shoot in a variety of divisions and classes based on the equipment they use, taking both their airgun and support equipment into consideration. The event is governed under the rules of the American Field Target Association.
Field target requires a shooter to successfully manage a course of fire in which they attempt to knock down steel targets set at distances ranging from 15 to 50 yards. The event is open to all ages. “Shooting is truly a level playing field for parents and their kids, making it a great family experience. Age, height, weight don’t give an advantage so we see both adults and youth performing at high levels and leaving with huge smiles,” added DeBoard.
