Red Bull KTM Factory Riders Clean up at Washougal

The US Red Bull KTM Factory Team delivered a historic moment for the Austrian brand when both Ryan Dungey and Marvin Musquin swept their respective 450-class and 250-class motos in Rd. 9 of the US Pro MX at Washougal, Washington State. Dungey’s 450-class teammate Ken Roczen finished with a 3-3 for overall third to make it a near perfect day out for the factory team.
Fresh off a podium finish at his hometown race in Millville, Minnesota the previous weekend, Dungey, a Red Bull Athlete was already in fast mode, topping the leader board in the morning qualifying sessions at Washougal MX Park. Teammate Roczen was fourth fastest.
Dungey had a great start off the line. He quickly moved into the lead by the end of the first lap in his opening moto and stayed there throughout the 16-lap race. Roczen was around tenth off the line and steadily worked his way up to third place by the end of the race. The German teenager said later that he had had problems with an injured thumb during the race. Dungey then went on to dominate his second moto. He moved into the lead by the end of the opening lap and went on to take an impressive win by a margin of eight seconds.
“I think I just got to a point after last week where I just got sick of not riding to my full potential this season,” commented Dungey. “To work so hard and not win really hurts so I came into this weekend wanting to ride my best and I think that is what I did. Everything just clicked today and I am happy to have made up 10 points on Kenny toward the championship.”
Roczen also repeated his first moto result and his 3-3 scores earned him third overall for the day, saying: “I was just a bit off my game today. We have an off-weekend coming up so I will use that to recover and come back stronger at Unadilla.”
The Red Bull KTM teammates remain at 1-2 in the overall point standings in the 450-class competition and with three rounds still to go, Roczen has a 14-point lead over Dungey. Both Dungey and Roczen ride the KTM 450 SX-F machine.
Musquin takes 1-1 in 250-class
In what was a near perfect day for the Red Bull KTM Factory Team, Marvin Musquin also swept both of his motos in the 250-class competition. It was a welcome return to form for the team’s French rider who earlier in the year was plagued with injury.
Musquin impressed the crowd from the start of the day when he was the fastest qualifier for a good gate pick and a shot of confidence heading into the opening 250-class moto. He got a decent jump off the line and worked his way into the lead by the end of the fifth lap. Once out front, he pulled away from the pack and went on to win his first moto of the year by a dominant eight seconds.
“It was tough starting out the season nursing an injury but I have been getting stronger every weekend and it showed today,” stated Musquin. “I’m starting to hit my stride at this point in the season and I am really excited about my progress.”
Musquin went out hard and fast in his second moto and had moved up to fourth position by the fourth lap of his race. He continued his charge and by the tenth lap had moved into the lead and went on to seal the race victory and the 1-1 overall for the day. Musquin rides the KTM 250 SX-F bike.
Speaking of his performance and that of 450-class teammate Ryan Dungey, Musquin said: “I’m so happy to help KTM earn this milestone of winning all motos today. This is the best motocross race in the history of our team and I’m so proud to be a part of it.” Musquin’s win advances him up to fourth in the championship standings.
