Long-gun Trends and High-tech Hunting Profits Inside August Issue of Shooting Industry

The August issue of Shooting Industry provides dealers with a cache of useful advice on selling long guns in preparation for hunting season. In “Return To Balance,” Carolee Anita Boyles speaks to dealers and manufacturers to find out which long guns and gear firearm business owners should be stocking to keep up with consumer demand. Boyles speaks with Bruce Kitzis, Shooters World general manager, to determine the long-gun trends.

“We’re seeing a larger group of people who are not only hunting, but also are interested in the shooting sports and in long-range shooting. For the last six to nine months, I’ve seen an uptick in people wanting more expensive firearms,” Kitzis notes. “There’s been a lot of publicity over the last few years, and people are figuring out shooting is fun. Customers are starting to get into shooting leagues, bettering their marksmanship and just enjoying the fun of the shooting sports.”

In “The High-Tech, High-Profit Business of Hunting,” Greg Staunton gives an intricate overview of the latest and greatest gadgets and gear hitting the market for hunters and outdoor enthusiasts, revealing the immense opportunities for profits in accessory sales.

“Many new products fall into two basic categories: high-tech offerings and creative or crossover items that have a functional or fashion appeal,” Staunton explains. “From optics and cell phone upgrades to Mossy Oak-patterned furniture covers for the man (or woman) cave, hunters and outdoor enthusiasts have lots to choose from — and purchase.”

The August issue also includes Pat Covert’s feature on increasing primary and secondary sales with flashlights and lighting accessories, Massad Ayoob’s insight on running a successful gun business in an anti-gun area and Lisa Parsons-Wraith’s guidance on offering customizable products for women customers.
