Game & Fish/Sportsman magazine presented Bass Pro Shops with several readers’ choice awards for favorite fishing gear at the 2014 ICAST show in Orlando, Florida. Bass Pro Shops Lazer Eye Spinnerbait received the nod for favorite wirebait while readers’ favorite jig was the Bass Pro Shops Enticer Pro Series Football Jig. In addition, voters selected Bass Pro Shops XPS Slim Dog as their favorite topwater lure and their favorite hook was Bass Pro Shops XPS Magna Superlock.

“It is my pleasure to represent our hardcore fishermen and present these tokens of accomplishment to industry partners such as Bass Pro Shops,” said Game & Fish/Sportsman Publisher Peter Gross. “Their products are recognized as some of the best in the industry. Our readers put in a lot of time on the water and have extensive experience with Bass Pro Shops’ products. They told us that the lures, hooks and other gear are priced for the average angler but effective and tough.”

Gross noted that Bass Pro Shops XPS Magna Superlock hook, for example, dominated its category and pulled in nearly half of all votes. The Superlock got 49.0 percent of the vote, while the closest competitor received 25.7 percent.

Magazine reader James Davis was one of the anglers who voted for Bass Pro Shops Lazer Eye spinnerbait. His remarks about the lure summed up many of the other comments made during the balloting about Bass Pro Shops products: “This is an affordable spinnerbait that will catch fish, and they come in a lot of color combinations,” Davis wrote in the comments section of the balloting.

Game & Fish/Sportsman magazine asked manufacturers to submit new-gear nominees in 26 categories, from rods and reels to raingear and sunglasses. To be considered new, gear must have been introduced in the last three years. The magazine then queried a sampling of subscribers and e-newsletter recipients to determine their favorite picks.

More than 2,000 anglers responded and voted for their favorite gear.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by Game & Fish/Sportsman magazine readers,” said Tammy Sapp, Bass Pro Shops director of communications. “These are avid anglers who know what it takes to consistently catch fish.”
