Scatter Rap Series Gets on Jointed Kick

When the bite gets tough, nothing beats a jointed Rapala to get finicky fish to eat. But fish ain’t seen nothin’ yet. At least that’s how it will seem when you start catching ‘em on a new Scatter Rap Jointed.

Built on a classic, articulated Rapala Jointed Minnow balsa body with a patented Scatter Lip, the Scatter Rap Jointed swims like an injured minnow beating a fleet retreat. That action, unlike anything fish have seen in a bait before, triggers strikes from otherwise uninterested or hesitant fish.

Featuring an “evasive action,” Scatter Raps perfectly mimic spooked baitfish fleeing attack, moving unpredictably from one side to the next, back to center, and then kicking out to one side again. The Scatter Rap Jointed’s broken-back style allows for even more action — and at slower retrieve speeds — making it a perfect bait for after cold fronts, when fish are traditionally finicky and in a negative feeding mood.

“Not only does the jointed body exaggerate the already erratic Scatter action, but it also creates an illusion that the bait’s moving more than it is,” says Rapala pro-staffer Mark Martin. “That’s often the trigger you need to get bites from fish in post-front conditions or cold water.”

In all weather conditions, a Scatter Rap Jointed is a great search bait, Martin says. “It will attract fish from a lot farther away, because the Scatter action plus the jointed action displaces a lot more water than other baits,” he explains. “And, the unique noise you get — with the click-clacking of the two halves of the bait — can call them in from a ways away, too.”

The Scatter Rap Jointed dives 5-to-7 feet. The lure is 3-1/2 inches long, weigh 1/4 of an ounce and comes equipped with two No. 6 VMC Black Nickel Round-bend Hooks. They’re available in 16 colors: Bleak, Ayu, Blue, Clown, Firetiger, Gold, Golden Alburnus, Gold Fluorescent Red, Hot Steel, Perch, Purpledescent, Rainbow Trout, Silver, Silver Fluorescent Chartreuse, Brown Trout and Yellow Perch.
