Yurkevicius Wins IFA Kayak Fishing Tour Event at Georgetown, South Carolina

Stephen Yurkevicius, of Jacksonville, Florida, measured a combined limit of 49.25 inches to win the final regular-season event for the Atlantic Division of the IFA Kayak Fishing Tour presented by Hobie Fishing on Aug. 17 at Georgetown, South Carolina.

Yurkevicius fished the Bulls Bay area, working the banks with top-water baits for both his redfish and trout. The angler reported a slow bite.

“I fished the last of the outgoing tide around deeper water for trout,” said Yurkevicius. “I felt fortunate to have both fish early in the day.”

The angler won $1,500 and a Power-Pole Micro Anchor for first place and added $390 in Anglers Advantage. His 34.25-inch redfish won him the $100 Berkley Big Fish award.

Second-place finisher Robby Freeman, of Athens, Georgia, measured a combined total of 35.38 inches at the event. The angler fished Berkley Gulp! on a jighead just south of Georgetown for his limit. The angler added $260 in Anglers Advantage cash for an overall total of $1,360 in winnings.

Justin Carter, of Charleston, South Carolina, measured a 19.25-inch redfish and a 15.38 speckled sea trout to place third. The angler reported tough fishing conditions due to muddy waters from early boat traffic. Carter fished in the Georgetown area, shallow sight-casting crankbaits and jerkbaits.

Carter won the $100 Hobie Top Angler award for having the highest placed finish for an angler competing out of a Hobie kayak.

The fastest-growing kayak fishing tournament trail in the country, the IFA Kayak Fishing Tour Presented by Hobie Fishing events are catch-photograph-release tournaments, offering inshore kayak anglers from a multitude of states the opportunity to participate in competitive fishing tournaments with low entry fees and minimal travel requirements.
