NEW FRABILL I-2 KNOWS HOW TO SKIN THE COOL CATS, NO MATTER THE CONDITIONS
If one coat was better than layers, we’d have been born with a single sheet of skin. Imagine going through life with tarpaulin skin. Desert-dry cracking followed by profuse sweating, rounded out with frozen morning dew and UV breakdown. No, we have all those ‘derms’ for a reason, each serving a specific function in the heating, cooling and protecting of the human body.
It’s in respect for the art and science of layering that Frabill proffers the I-2 ice fishing suit for winter 2014-15. Engineered as the impenetrable outer shell in a layering system, the I-2 stands unfalteringly waterproof, windproof and breathable, while setting the stage for warmth – and alternate cooling – allocated by conscientious wearer layering methods.
The designation “ice fishing” clearly indicates wintry conditions rooted in temps below the freezing mark. With that said, there are seasons inside the greater season that run the range from midwinter’s harsh depths of darkness to comparatively mild “sweatshirt weather” at first and last ice. Such violent mood swings necessitate wholesale wardrobe changes, or in the case of the versatile I-2, easy alterations of underneath layers.
“I like the versatility of Frabill’s I-2 ice fishing suit,” says Brian “Bro” Brosdahl, who fishes the widest range of conditions and climates imaginable. “Early and late in the season, I might only wear a light sweatshirt underneath. In the bowels of winter, when the lighthearted stay inside, I’ll go with a thermal base-layer and a heavier hooded-sweatshirt, while the I-2 stands guard on the outside.”
At 300 denier, the I-2’s nylon taslan shell is pretty thick skinned. This, while the shell’s under-skin features a fleece-lined torso with soft tricot-lined sleeves. The simple, yet brilliant thinking behind incorporating two unique linings is that the lighter tricot in the sleeves fosters motion while the fleece in the torso promotes warmth.
Fishing-features on the jacket align like the stars. Multiple, functional cargo-pockets adorn the outer jacket while critically located hand-warmer pockets feature soft tricot linings. Inside, an electronics pocket nests your smartphone or handheld GPS. The I-2 also sports an adjustable hood with sun visor.
The I-2 bibs are outfitted with equal intelligence. Their 300 denier body fabric is reinforced with 500 denier nylon at the knees – a critical wear area. The knees and seat afford specialized padding as well, promoting comfort specific to the demands of ice fishing. The I-2 bibs also feature multiple cargo pockets, tricot-lined hand warming pockets, full elastic shoulder straps with cam-lock buckles and long leg zippers for easy on/off and temperature regulation.
And staying in concert with all Frabill I-Series ice fishing outerwear, the I-2 is built upon a foundation of ice safety. Frabill’s exclusive Self-Rescue kit includes ice picks and holster on the jacket, Frabill Self-Rescue ice safety information inside the jacket and bibs and specialized drainage mesh on the jacket and bibs to purge water-weight while affecting self-rescue.
Frabill leaves nothing to chance. From a fishing-specific ergonomic design to exclusive Self-Rescue features, the I-2 – and all of Frabill’s I-Series for that matter – perform with confidence so the only gambling you do is over the first and biggest fish.
