Mercury Pros Korey Sprengel and Derek Navis Take MWC Championship Title

Capping a stellar angling season, Mercury pros Korey Sprengel and Derek Navis captured top honors Oct. 11 at the Masters Walleye Circuit (MWC) Championship at Devil’s Lake, North Dakota.

The team claimed the victory with an impressive 85-pound, 13-ounce total weight.

Sprengel, 26, of Beaver Dam, Wis., has been on fire. In addition to the MWC win, he won the National Walleye Tour Championship in September. Sprengel says he didn’t know what to expect at Devil’s Lake, but was focused on the morning bite and getting to the team’s key areas first.

“It was important to get to our spots first,” says Sprengel. “The Mercury OptiMax 250 Pro XS had us running there faster than anyone else. It was key to us getting the fish in the boat. We had time to get the first pass or two over the top of those fish before anyone else showed up.”

The winning duo collected a $20,000 first-place prize.

The win by Sprengel and Navis is just one of several major victories claimed this year by Mercury Marine pros. Greg Hackney (B.A.S.S. Angler of the Year), Jacob Powroznik (B.A.S.S. Rookie of the Year), Brett Preuett (B.A.S.S. College Champion) and Randy Howell (Bassmaster Classic Champion) also won major titles for Mercury in 2014.
