Established in 1961, The Pope and Young Club (P&Y) is the premier non-profit North American bowhunting and conservation organization. The P&Y Club promotes and participates in improving sound wildlife conservation and wise use of natural resources. It fosters and nourishes bowhunting excellence while promoting appreciation of bowhunting’s foundations, principles and values to serve the best interest of bowhunting everywhere. The Club also maintains the universally recognized repository for the records and statistics on North American big game animals harvested under fair chase standards with the bow and arrow. It is the mission of The P&Y to ensure bowhunting for future generations by preserving and promoting its heritage and values.

Executive Director

Bring your leadership skills to the bowhunting community at The Pope & Young Club (P&Y). The experienced, talented and enthusiastic Executive Director guides the overall operations of the club. This integral management role is responsible for overseeing the administration, finances and strategic plan of the club. Other key duties include fundraising, marketing as well as membership recruitment and retention. Inspired by our mission, this position will collaborate with the Board to maintain the integrity and financial health of the club.

Ideal candidates will have demonstrated success working in a high-level leadership role across diverse functions.  Previous experience working at a non-profit organization is strongly preferred. Qualified candidates will have a degree preferably in business, organizational management or a related field. Must have extensive knowledge in several specialized disciplines including fundraising strategies, event planning and budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting. Strong business acumen and public speaking ability is essential.

    I hope P&Y find an outstanding new President. One thought: It would be nice if the new leader would remove P&Y from the list of groups who are anti-hunting along with PETA. That’s right, anti-hunting, at least when it comes to crossbows. Both PETA and P&Y agree on this issue: Crossbows should not be allowed in any big game archery season.
    It is funny how the debate changes over time, but the basic issues remain the same. One group wants to keep another group out. P&Y supports ethical hunting with a “bow and arrow,” but in the 60’s and 70’s many traditional hunters were against compound bows because they were not “bows and arrows”. Since the states have allowed “compound bows” as legal for taking big game during the archery seasons, now the traditional and compound users are saying that compound bows are bows and arrows, but another type of bow…crossbows, are not. Traditional, compounds and crossbows are all archery equipment and use “bows” whether or not the limbs have pulleys and cams, or the bow is attach to a tiller or stock. I wish the new President luck in bringing the P&Y organization into the twenty first century.
