The LimbSaver Windjammer Stabilizer

This year, the premium LimbSaver product is the Windjammer Stabilizer. It offers compressed micro-beads of NAVCOM material inside an aluminum body with the addition of a counterbalance weight that is designed to compliment your bow hunting setup by offsetting the weight of your quiver or whatever else you may stick on the side of your bow.

I already hunt with the basic model of LimbSaver stabilizer on my bow, and this product got me thinking – just how much better can the Windjammer be? I tried this device on both a compound and a recurve in order to get an unbiased feel for how it performs and what it’s able to alter in your grip and your follow through.

My Hoyt recurve was first to don all of the LimbSaver products. At this first shot, the noise level was dramatically reduced; however, the shot went left of the target. This is where I began to learn about the effects of the offset weight on the Windjammer Stabilizer. As I rotated the counterbalance, I was able to significantly alter my grip and follow through, which in turn, altered the shot. When I removed the counterbalance, I was on again as normal, with the addition of significantly reduced vibration and noise.

I continued to experiment with the counterbalance on a Quest compound as well, with very similar results. After only a few shots, I was able to adjust the balance perfectly so that it complimented the offset weight of the sights and quiver. I was pleasantly surprised with this feature and I think that in the future, archers will begin to demand this kind of innovation in their gear. As hunters, properly tuning our equipment is KEY. For years, I’ve taken my quiver off before shooting any distance, because I know how it affects my shot. With innovative new equipment like this, it’s no longer necessary to do that! The Windjammer offers convenience, increased accuracy and time saving attributes to your hunting setup.

I was so impressed with what I could do with balance-tuning my bow that this stabilizer will be a permanent fixture on my favorite bow for years to come. Since the concept of balance-tuning your bow is so relatively new, if you are not already trying it, balance-tuning is a MUST-DO! And with products from LimbSaver like this, it’s easy, convenient and doesn’t break the bank.

Features that I like with the stabilizer include the points to wrench on. Using tools to tighten all of the set screws and pivot points is integral, nothing snaps in or clips on. Everything is bolted in place making it very secure and ready to take the punishment using your bow responsibly will ensue. I’m very happy with the construction. I give the Windjammer Stabilizer two thumbs up!

I'm 28, I own a horse farm in eastern Kansas, and am an avid big game hunter with bow, muzzle loader and rifle. From about age 16-25 I guided hunts all over the country, including working for outfitters in Alaska, Colorado and Kansas. Now that I have started a family, I stick closer to home instead of leaving for months at a time. I have hunted and taken the majority of the 27 big game species in North America and am looking forward to completing my super slam of North American game in the next 15 years or so. Many of the hunts I do are back pack hunts in the wild country with nothing but food, water and a weapon. Several times a year, I take my horses out on a rifle hunt for whitetails and deeply enjoy riding through the plains and filling my doe tags. Horse packing is one of the many skills I have developed in order to extend my hunting opportunities. For me, the less technology involved, the greater my sense of accomplishment afterwards. Technology has it's pace, but I appreciate the greater level of skill it takes to live on this earth without it. I write a blog called The Western Hunter. In that, I highlight aspects about hunting the Rocky Mountain States and give advice about trophy potential, tactics and especially the tools of the trade. My adventure seeking nature has driven me to all the corners of North America in pursuit of both adrenaline and game. Being the best drives me; always learning, always practicing for the moments that I can push myself to succeed where others fail. As a hunter this means that I will hunt harder, work harder and learn more, faster. This competitive nature in me has been a blessing to me and my family. Every day, I thank the Lord that He made me what I am. The apex predator on this earth.
