Peregrine Field Gear’s Quick-Shot Holster

I know most of us have either stood in the marsh or field wishing we had someplace safe to put our guns. After a long day our forearms are sore from draping the gun. Peregrine Field Gear has introduced the Quick-Shot, a very cool item that gives hunters a safe way to hold their guns in just about any environment. The Quick-Shot comes in three versions: a high quality, waterproof synthetic material, in either black ($34.99) or Mossy Oak Duck Blind camouflage ($39.99) or a version of the holster made of handcrafted leather ($119.99 – $129.99).

The benefits of the Quick-Shot are numerous. They fit almost all long gun stocks, significantly reduce the fatigue of holding a 5-8 pound weapon, the muzzle is always pointed upward, it’s suitable for either left or right handed shooters, and the part I really like is they come with a 2” woven belt that will also hold shells. The natural holding position also makes an extra hand available.

I decided to put the belts through the paces using a group of young shooters as they shot for a full day. Unlike my habitual use of the forearm that seems unstoppable, they were much better testers with little in the way of gun handling habits. I was pleased to see both men and women actively using the Quick-Shot and for them it was almost a natural to carry the gun using the Quick-Shot.

As an avid dove and duck hunter I cannot imagine not having the Quick-Shot around my waist. It is the perfect way to make the day a whole lot less uncomfortable. I know some hunters, especially waterfowl hunters, will install recoil reducers into the stock of their guns and increase the overall weight even more. That weight fatigues the legs, back and neck. With the Quick–Shot holster the gun rests comfortably and is immediately at the ready. The heavy duty woven belt will also double as a wader belt.

I did not have access to the handcrafted leather version, but the synthetic models are very well designed and produced. All the edges have sewn piping to strengthen the material and the holsters incorporate heavy polyethylene supports to keep the shape of the holster. Snaps on the backside give access for threading the belt that includes a heavy military-grade quick release buckle, but also allow for unfolding and cleaning. The shell holders are heavy duty elastic. All Quick-Shot holsters have a lifetime warranty on stitching and snaps.

Peregrine Field Gear has a winner in the Quick-Shot.

I have been an avid hunter for most of my life with an emphasis on dove, duck and goose hunting.  I grew up in Missouri and was fortunate to share my father’s profession  as a waterfowl biologist while growing up.  I have hunted perhaps every corner of the state and currently lease an area that I waterfowl hunt on as often as possible. My profession is in academics, but  I also advise our nationally ranked  shooting team, I am a certified NRA shooting coach and I teach a course in Recreational Shotgun Shooting each fall. I love the shooting sports. My second passion is radio control airplanes.  I fly, write and blog for a national magazine and online forum often.
