Elevate Your Thermal Game with the ATN OTS 4T

In this review, we are going to dive in to one of the most capable handheld thermal spotters on the market, the ATN OTS 4T.

When we began our journey into the world of thermal hunting, there was so much we didn’t know. At first glance, hunting at night seems like it should be as straight forward as hunting during the day. You watch wind direction, get cozy in a spot where you are less likely to be seen and you wait. The reality of thermal hunting is much different and much more fun!

What we quickly learned was that thermal hunting is not a stationary event. While you may camp out in a blind or tree stand for a whitetail hunt, a hog or predator hunt at night is much more dynamic. One of our most valued pieces of gear quickly became a handled thermal spotter.

Having used a variety of handheld devices from ATN, I have settled on what has quickly become my must have spotter in the field. In my opinion, the ATN OTS 4T is the most capable and feature rich offering from ATN for handheld thermal imaging. It takes all of the most impactful features from their Thor 4 rifle scope line and boils it down to an incredible and compact package.

The ATN OTS 4T is an absolute powerhouse of technology stuffed in to an easy to carry package. We have been using the OTS 4T 640 4-40X, however ATN offers 8 variations in this line of thermal handhelds ranging in price from $1,699 – $3,899. The OTS 4T 640 4-40X we have on hand will be the focus of our obsession.

The ATN OTS 4T features the ATN 4th generation 640X480 sensor and a 4-40X digital zoom. What this combination brings to your hands and hunt is the ability to detect a thermal heat source at 3,330 meters, thermal object recognition at 1,450 meters, and thermal object identification at 800 meters. For a hunter, this means you will have an incredible amount of time from the moment you detect a target to the moment you fire your shot.

Speaking of what you can see, the OTS 4T 640 4-40X brings multiple options to you as far as color pallets go. You have your core black hot and white hot options, as well as a slew of additional colors. The digital zoom is also incredibly impressive and with the ultra-powerful processor in the OTS 4T 640 4-40X, pixelation at distance is not a concern.

What drives the OTS 4T 640 4-40X home as my absolute favorite handheld device from ATN is the ability to record and capture still. We have become obsessed over the years with the recording capability of the ATN Thor 4 and when we learned that the OTS 4T could also capture footage, we knew we had to have one. Just like the Thor 4 scopes, the OTS 4T 640 4-40X allows you to record video beautiful and crisp footage up to 60fps and capture amazing still photos. You also have the ability to stream liv3 footage using the Obsidian smartphone app from ATN. With the ATN OTS 4T, you can create a spotting command center on your phone that will allow you bring more bystanders in to the action!

Like all the other ATN devices that we have been fortunate enough to use over the years, the ATN OTS 4T has incredible battery life. The dual core process that this device uses allows for smooth operation and an absolutely incredible 16 hours of continuous run time. As the first ever digital monocular that offers that kind of battery life, you will not be left stranded in the field when using the OTS 4T.

Overall, we cannot recommend this spotter enough. TheOTS 4T 640 4-40X is one of those pieces of gear that will not only help you step up your game, it will also create a more streamlined and comfortable hunt for you and your hunting partners. While you can absolutely hit the field with one of the capable scopes that ATN has to offer and be successful, why not elevate your game with a handheld thermal device like the OTS 4T 640 4-40X and change your game forever?ATN ots 4t 2
