Hunting On the Prairie with the Banish 223

In this review, we’ll be breaking down the Banish 223 from Silencer Central.

One of the best perks of being an outdoor writer is that you often find yourself on destination hunts with people that you otherwise may not get to meet.  It’s an incredibly humbling experience to tackle a hunt, such as prairie dog, using a product with its creator right next to you!  On a recent trip to South Dakota, I got to do just that. Brandon Maddox, the founder and CEO of Silencer Central came along for the fun and gave us a breakdown of his favorite hunt and the Banish 223.

The Banish 223 is a phenomenal suppressor built for rifles chambered in .224 caliber or smaller. With its direct thread mount utilizing a 1/2×28 thread pitch, its purpose built for hunting rifles chambered in .224 caliber or smaller. One such caliber, is the 22-250 which we used on our prairie dog hunt. The 22-250 is an incredible round when you need to cut through wind over distances. 22-250 is arguably one of the best calibers for prairie dog hunting. And so, I was very excited to pair it with the Banish 223.

This was my first trip on the hunt for prairie dogs and as such, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. Brandon was an incredibly gracious host in his adopted home State of South Dakota, showing us around the Silencer Central HQ and also giving us background on the state and its history. Having been born in a State different than the one I now reside, I could easily relate with Brandon’s love for the State he now calls home.

If you have been prairie dog hunting in the past, then you already know what I’m about to tell you. This hunt requires a large quantity of ammunition. When I say a lot, I mean hundreds of rounds per guy, per day depending on the size of the dog town you are on. With that in mind, a suppressor is not a nice to have accessory, it is an absolute must have for a prairie dog hunt.

Flinging hundreds of rounds per day down range without a suppressor means you will have to wear ear protection for hours. While you can get some great shooting muffs with bluetooth, it’s just not the same as going without protection. The Banish 223 has a sound reduction of 38 decibels which provided an incredibly quiet experience on the prairie. All three hunters were able to shoot, talk, and enjoy each others company without struggling to hear what we were saying to each other.

Another huge consideration when looking at suppressors that will be used frequently is the ability to service them yourself. The Banish 223 is a user serviceable suppressor, which means after a long day, or days, of hunting you can break down your can and thoroughly clean it. While the Banish 223 has an incredibly strong titanium composition, keeping it clean will only further extend its life and keep it functioning at its highest capacity.

In addition to the durability titanium brings to the Banish 223, it also makes this suppressor incredibly lightweight. With its 7″ length and 7 baffle design, it tips the scale at a mere 9oz. With such a manageable footprint, you’ll find the Banish 223 a wonderful compliment to your bolt gun. Speaking of guns, the Banish 223 can be used for the more tactical minded shooters as well. While I used the Banish 223 for hunting this time around, I have also used it at the range on my AR-15 as well.

Beyond the features and functionality, one of the key reasons to purchase a suppressor from Silencer Central is because of their superior customer service and incredibly easy process. While purchasing an NFA item like a suppressor does have a few more steps to it, Silencer Central makes it a breeze. Let me break down exactly why!

Silencer Central has mastered the NFA process with an incredible “to your doorstep” purchase process. When you buy any of the suppressors available on Silencer Centrals website, you will receive your paperwork and an optional fingerprint kit delivered to your door. What this means is that you can accomplish all of the required NFA steps necessary from your living room. Once you have submitted your paperwork, Silencer Central will assist you in certification and submit your application to the ATF via the eForms portal. What this means is that you could have approval for your new suppressor within 90 days. Once approved, Silencer Central will deliver your new can directly to your door because they have physical FFL locations in every state where suppressors are legal.

When it’s all said and done, Silencer Central’s product line up and process make them hard to beat. If you are in the market, I highly recommend you head over to www.SilencerCentral.com to check out their suppressors.
