Review: HYBRIDLIGHT Solar Headlamp

Recently I did a review of the HYBRIDLIGHT flashlight and told you how impressed I was after having it for years and it still works flawlessly as it did on day 1. It’s been with me everywhere and not only has it not broken from all of the moves and kids playing with it, it still continues to hold a charge with the internal battery.

My audience made a joke about reviewing a solar headlamp, and I almost laughed along, but then I thought, “actually, that’s a brilliant idea.”

When do you need a headlamp? At night.

What is it doing during the day? Not doin’ nothin’.

Put that headlamp to use during the day and stop worrying about carrying batteries!

With a solar headlamp, you can set the headlamp to charge during the day and use it at night.

I was really happy to find a solar headlamp manufactured by the same, trusted company as HYBRIDLIGHT. The HYBRIDLIGHT Solar Headlamp is lightweight

How much light do you typically use during a typical evening/night? It can vary during the seasons, but in general, even when we lived in the lower 48 and went camping during the summer, we were only using it for a couple hours at night, not an extended period of time.

With 70 lumen output, the HYBRIDLIGHT Solar Headlamp has a solid 30 hours of light on just one charge!

When it comes to emergency preparedness, the same concept can be applied. Set it in a window or outside directly in the suns’ rays to charge up. Some say you can’t charge with solar through a window because of some of the dimming properties of a window or sometimes it’s just too thick for te suns’ rays to get through. However, I have never experienced this and I’ve always been able to successfully charge solar items through windows. It may take slightly longer to do so than if it were placed directly outdoors, but I haven’t noticed anything drastic.

The instructions are minimal. It’s a pretty cut-and-dry piece of gear.

  • Set out in the sun to let it charge all-day
  • Use it at night

Not able to get a full charge with the sun? No problem! It can also be charged via USB via your car, generator, small battery bank or wall socket.

It comes with its own mini solar panel that plugs into the USB port to charge it up via the sun.

It was quick to get setup and going. No hiccups or anything confusing. It’s one of the more simple headlamps on the market which is probably why I love it so much.

My only real complaint about this headlamp is the fact that the panel detaches. So while I was happy not to have to worry about batteries rolling around, now I’m having to worry about the mini solar panel rolling around.

Of course I take care of my gear. It’s not literally ‘rolling around’, but you get the idea. If I can eliminate an excess piece of gear, I will.

However, the solar panel doesn’t attach and there’s really no way to attach it. I really wish the solar panel folded in or attached somehow, but I’m not even sure how exactly that would work.

Besides that one flaw, I highly recommend getting a HYBRIDLIGHT Solar Headlamp and adding it to your camping, hiking, emergency preparedness or hunting gear. At just $19.99, you’ll be glad to have a solar-powered headlamp option!
