Review: Hot Shot Fire Card Gen 2 by Grim Workshop
Morgan Rogue 08.11.23
I’m a big fan of anything from Grim Workshop. At the time of writing this, the Hot Shot Fire Card Gen 2 is currently on Kickstarter and will be fully funded and will be available on the Grim Workshop website soon!
I was honored to receive an advance sample of the Hot Shot Fire Card to try out.
Let’s check out some of the features of the Hot Shot Fire Card Gen 2:
- Credit card sizes so it fits in your wallet
- Made with 1095 blued high carbon steel
- Made in the USA
- Every tool has a guarantee
- High carbon steel knife
- Ferro rod striker (can also strike on the back of the knife)
- Magnesium rod
- Mini pry bar/cordage wrap
- Ferro rod
- Saw
- Tweezers
I’ve tried a lot of their past products and I must say, this card is one of the most durable and easy-to-use cards that I have used as of yet.
There’s a backing on it that makes it easy to stick on and off, but it’s not a sticky backing. It’s what they call a ‘tool retention system’. It’s not magnetic, not sticky but it holds the tools in place and can be re-used over and over again to keep the tools retained together as the credit card shape.
The Hot Shot Fire Card also came with a couple tinder cards. It also comes with various cards that offer tips on how to get a fire started in various ways and conditions.
We decided to test this baby out on a real fire.
The knife may be small, but it is mighty. It doesn’t feel sharp when you take it out, but it certainly is sharp and can be sharpened.
I am really impressed with the saw. It’s small and can be awkward to use for an extended period of time, but to saw some small sticks, it works really well, and fast!
The ferro rod itself works exactly as a ferro rod should and throws beautiful sparks!
I used the back of the knife as the striker, though it does come with a dedicated striker, the back of the knife worked extremely well.
This is a sturdy card with robust tools that can do the job of starting a fire with ease. The tools are small but they’re so strong and not at all flimsy as far as I can tell. They’re made with quality and durability in mind for the end user. It’s obvious a lot of thought and consideration was put into these tools so they can be relied upon in any circumstance.
The prices for their cards are extremely affordable, ranging from just a few dollars up to around $30 and sometimes more depending on the bundles that are offered.
I highly recommend checking out the Hot Shot Fire Card Gen 2 by Grim Workshop!
