Media Day Initial Impressions: Slide Fire 10/22 Chassis and Other Fun Things

Slide Fire’s bump-fire accessories are always a hit at Media Day, and this year was no exception. Foremost among their offerings was their new Ruger 10/22 chassis, the SSAR-22. The SSAR-22 can be easily mounted to nearly any 10/22 and allows an operator to take on targets in the bump-fire style we all know and love. I found the .22 LR fun-machine to be a bit difficult to get the hang of—the best I could manage was short two- to three-round bursts before I needed to “reset” the system and push the stock forward again. However, other shooters more experienced with the rapid-fire devices seemed to mag-dump the rifles with glee. The SSAR-22 retails for $450.

Slide Fire also had an unnamed prototype of a tripod-mounted bump-fire AR present at their booth. I was unfortunately not present when they fired it, but it sounded like it was a crowd pleaser. One thing’s for sure—Slide Fire could certainly take the home-defense world by storm if they ever decide to bring it to production.

I've been a history and gun enthusiast since I was a kid. I love to shoot just about anything, from silenced bolt-action .22s to fully automatic heavy machine guns, and I love even more when I get to write about them. My main interests are modern small arms and the military small arms of World War II and prior conflicts, with a particular focus on Russian and Finnish firearms. Reading about guns like the Mosin-Nagant rifle in books and on the internet got me interested in collecting, shooting, and writing about them, and I hope to do the same for others through my work.
