After Reported Sighting, Marion, North Carolina Claims Bigfoot their ‘Official Animal’

The small town of Marion, North Carolina gained national attention for reporting a Bigfoot sighting a few years back. Now, they’re doubling down on their claim by making the mythical creature the town’s “official animal.”

Officials in Marion, NC say the proclamation is, for the most part, ceremonial, but serves as an acknowledgment that some members of the community believe the mythical figure truly exists.

According to the Charlotte Observer, Mayor Stephen Little has admitted he’s never actually seen a Bigfoot, but stays the course by saying anyone visiting Marion has a chance of seeing one.

Marion’s request will officially go into effect September 8, the same day of the town’s Bigfoot festival, which intends to bring together enough evidence to “prove” the creature’s existence.
